This year Nene Valley Railway is hosting its sixth classic car event. Once again Wansford Station will be home to a stunning collection of over 100 vintage motor cars, each guaranteed to 'transport' you back in time through the decades. Visitors will be treated to a special classic car display, whilst our locomotives steam away in the background.
There will be other supporting attractions including Antique Bicycles, Second Hand Book Shop, and a Garden Railway. Our Archive Museum will also be open. We have arranged for a small number of guided tours of the maintenance sheds to see the work being undertaken, including the dismantling and rebuilding of locos. Signal Box tours will also be available. This year, the only remaining carriage from the Great Train Robbery will be on show on the tour. A small charge will be made for these tours.
Have lunch in the Station Café, or bring your own picnic to enjoy at Wansford’s riverside picnic area, or travel on the train to Ferry Meadows Country Park and enjoy your picnic there. Whilst at Ferry Meadows Station, why not visit the Night Mail Project? Or travel into the City for a look around the shops and the Cathedral.
This is an informal event, ‘just like it used to be’. Special Rally Field parking will be available for the first 100 cars to arrive. Event entry and all parking will be free. In addition, all classic car occupants will receive a discount on NVR Rover tickets for use on the day. The event will be open from 9.30am. Steam is scheduled to be running on the day.
Wansford Station is approximately 1½ miles south of the A1/A47 Junction; follow the brown signs to Nene Valley Railway. Sat Nav : PE8 6LR
