Details

Since "Flying Scotsman" visited the line in 1994 the Nene Valley Railway has offered budding footplate men and women the chance to enjoy the unique sensation of driving a full sized steam locomotive. The courses have become so popular that they have been expanded to include diesels, DMUs and even the ability to try your hand at working a Travelling Post Office coach. All courses are accompanied by the NVR's experienced staff. Everyone who takes part receives a personalised certificate, souvenirs of their visit and vouchers for a meal in the cafe and membership of the railway.

Corporate Driver Experience events can be tailored to a Company's individual footplate and catering needs depending on numbers involved.

The Nene Valley Driver Experience makes a memorable gift idea for birthdays, anniversaries and retirement surprises, what better way could there be to say "Thank You" to someone special. Guests are welcome to join participants at the railway to watch and take photographs but as the courses are normally operated on days when we are not running a passenger service guests will not be able to travel on the railway. Guests may also join participants for meals but large parties of guests (>5) must let us know in advance to reserve cafeteria meals and seating.

Unlike our normal services, advanced booking is essential. However, do not worry if we do not operate on that "special" date as Gift Vouchers for all our courses are available. For further details of our experience courses please click on the tabs to the left or call 01780 784444.

November 2009 update - Dates for experience courses in 2010 now available - see steam starter and Class 31 diesel pages for details
