Civil Engineering Work Week - April 2005 - Day by Day GalleriesProject - Track renewal at Wansford tunnel east portal - successful completion "A big 'thank you' to all our civils volunteers who helped to carry out a very successful operation as usual. Three 60ft long panels were resleepered in concrete and reballasted. Top ballast will be dropped after a period of traffic. The job was completed to time by Thursday evening and to our budget. The Friday contingency day was spent on lineside clearance in Wansford cutting, and shunting stock. For the project we took "just in time" delivery of two Sealions [each of 40 tonnes capacity dual braked] and two Rudd spoil disposal wagons. A third Rudd will be on its way from Toton In particular I would like to thank Michael Winter who organised all movements of plant and trains/steam crane and organised the track renewal using concrete CS1 sleepers and new ballast. Grateful thanks are also due to our mechanical colleagues on the steam crane and the diesel drivers." Roger Manns |
